Months ago, I read a blog post where another book blogger had been challenged to write her review in the form of a haiku. (Unfortunately, I can't remember who it was, or I would certainly give credit!) At the time I thought it was an impossible idea. However, I started thinking about it the other day and thought I'd give it a go.
A few things you need to know first . . .
I'm not a poet. Never have been.
I hated reading and writing poetry in school.
I swore poetry would be "dead to me" once I got done with school.
However, I really enjoyed this exercise in creativity.
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
I'm under no illusions that it's any good, but I'm pleased with the result.
I will probably do this again when the mood strikes.
With all of that said, I give you my Review in Haiku for Sweeter than Birdsong by Rosslyn Elliott. (It's not so much a "review" as a "response.")
deeply felt writing
sparks courage to choose the right
keeps me thinking still
That was a lot of build up for such a short little haiku, wasn't it? Anyway. I'd love to know what you think. And if the mood strikes and the creative juices are flowing, I'd love to read your Review in Haiku too! Just leave me a link in the comments and I'll check it out.

I still need to read these novels by Elloitt. They look / sound great! =)
ReplyDeleteBTW: Following you on Twitter. =)
Brooke, I've been making an interstate move, so I only just saw this. I love it and I'm honored that you chose Sweeter than Birdsong for your haiku review! Writing a poem response is a fun exercise, but what you say in your haiku is also really touching to me. Thank you.
