Teaser Tuesday | A Beauty So Rare

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by MizB on her blog Should Be Reading

Still nursing the slight sting from Aunt Adelicia's politely framed rebuke, Eleanor took another bite of creamed sweet potatoes, whipped lighter and fluffier than she'd ever tasted, and observed the family interaction around the Cheatham dinner table.  (p. 57)
A Beauty So Rare by Tamera Alexander

Tamera Alexander definitely has a knack for descriptions! I'm definitely craving a bite of those sweet potatoes now ... and I'm curious as to what the rebuke was for and what interests Eleanor about the family interactions at dinner.

Jules squeezed her eyes shut and prayed as loudly as silent prayer would allow. (90%)
Misery Loves Company by Rene Gutteridge

I read this book in three sittings and stayed up WAY too late in the night to do so! If you like suspense, I think you will just love this book! (Wanna see for yourself? It's currently free across e-reader platforms! Be sure to double check the price ... I'm not sure when this deal ends.)

"I want this to work."

Her heart misfired. "Why? ... Why do you want this to work?"

"Because I've never felt anything like this. I can't stop thinking about you. I want to kill the guy who hurt you, and my dog likes you." (p. 73)

Teaser Tuesday | All Things New

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by MizB on her blog Should Be Reading. Hop over for details or to link up!

You listen now. If you have babies, you gonna love them. Then you have to watch them grow up and be slaves just like you, living this miserable life. And nothing you can do about it. You wish they could be running around all happy like the white babies, but as much as it hurts, you got to teach your children to obey, no matter what. They belong to the white folks, not to you. Listen to me now, Lizzie. Don't ever fall in love. Just makes this life harder than it already is. (p. 27)

Teaser Tuesday | When a Heart Stops

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by MizB on her blog Should Be Reading. Hop over for details or to link up!

If she moved, would she die? Serena Hopkins kept her eyes shut and lay as still as possible in the king-size bed, doing her best to keep her breathing even.

Which was becoming more impossible by the second.

As her fear increased, so did the rate of her heartbeat and respirations.

Was he still there? (p. 7)

When a Heart Stops
by Lynette Eason

So ... this is how the book starts. Talk about intense, right?! I started and finished the book in the same day, so rest assured it was fantastic! My review will be posted tomorrow as part of the blog tour hosted by Revell. :)

Featuring a long-awaited September release: Love's Reckoning by Laura Frantz. If you haven't read Laura Frantz's novels, they are MUST READS!

How did one put such heartache into words? All the Scriptures she'd hidden in her heart now seemed to leave her. She couldn't recall them, couldn't pray. In a word, she felt forsaken. (p 308)

7 Giveaways + Teaser Tuesday | The Scent of Rain

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by MizB on her blog Should Be Reading. Hop over for details or to link up!

I started The Scent of Rain by Kristin Billerbeck yesterday. Not far enough along to comment too much, but Billerbeck is a fave!

The truth was, Anne's warmth made Daphne want to cry. Her own mother hadn't offered her a hug after the failed wedding; this total stranger had given her more emotional support for simply showing up. (p. 35)

Teaser Tuesday | Love Finds You in Mackinac Island

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by MizB on her blog Should Be Reading. Hop over for details or to link up!

Just started Love Finds You in Mackinac Island, Michigan. Melanie Dobson is a great writer!

For the next two months, she'd be paraded like a show horse while attending teas and dances and social events. But in the midst of all the socializing, she would escape for a few nights to her own refuge hidden away on the island, a place where she could step off the stage. (p 17)

I finished reading Wedded to War this morning (eeek!!!) and I loved it! I'll post my review tomorrow. :)

"Alice, come," she heard itself say. "Get dressed. The men are flying back to us. Hurry."

Picking up Maurice on their way out the door, they fled the hotel as if death itself was on their heels, when in reality death—or the possibility of it—was what they were running toward. This was not happening. (p 141)

Teaser Tuesday | The Stars Shine Bright

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by MizB on her blog Should Be Reading. Hop over for details or to link up!

I finished reading The Stars Shine Bright by Sibella Giorello over the weekend and thought I'd post a quick teaser. You can read my review here if the teaser piques your interest.

I nodded but felt the whole case galloping away. The forensics could stretch out for months. And OPR wouldn't wait. Not for something that could help me explain myself. (p 93)

"Those stars are there, every day, waiting in the blue sky. We just can't see them. This is what I want you to remember. The stars shine bright when it gets dark enough. The invisible becomes visible." He paused, watching me. "I don't expect you to understand this. But someday, I hope you'll remember." (p 268-269)

Stars Collide is the first book in the Backstage Pass series by Janice Thompson. Funny, funny series! (Although the teaser below doesn't sound like it.) You can read my review of the first two books here and the final book which released this month here.

He gave me a sympathetic look and brushed a loose hair out of my eye. "For one thing, we're not going to panic, Kat. That won't help anything. So no abrupt change of plans."
