A Quick Hello

To all my bloggy friends out there, I'm still here! I told you I was taking it easy on the blog and I really have!

I just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. Today has been completely heart-breaking, gut-wrenching. As we were running errands, taking care of all the Christmas things that we needed to do before starting family celebrations tomorrow (or later today!), we learned of the tragic shooting in Connecticut. I can't even begin to wrap my mind around how, why this sort of thing happens or how families—an entire community—will move forward, pushing through their grief, embracing a new normal.

It's been on my mind all day. I finally had to turn the TV off, stop watching the news, and put on something light-hearted. Part of me felt bad for saying anything, but I know myself and I needed a break from the non-stop coverage, conversation, FB newsfeed, Twitter updates, etc. So Hubs and I watched Fred Claus, laughed, while I wrapped gifts, decorated wrapping paper (yes, you read that correctly), and finished a photo book from our last vacation. It was good, a needed break. But now I'm supposed to be going to bed and my mind is drifting back to the families in Connecticut who are surely grieving tonight.

As I'm praying for everyone affected even now, I'm so grateful for a God who is not surprised by this tragedy. My small mind can't figure out the hows and whys, but my big God knows every detail. Thankful He is worthy of my trust in Him—especially when life is unfair.

Well, it's late and I'm up early to head off to the first of seven Christmas celebrations with various family. Tomorrow, we're celebrating with Hubs' parents. Looking forward to a good day with even better people. Thanks for letting me ramble tonight. I'll be back soon!
