About the Book
The hope of a future for the broken begins in Mourning.
Skip-tracer Renee Stratford-Knight’s life plan changed upon her sister’s murder. Instead of using her skills to find people, Renee opened New Beginnings a firm specializing in “vanishing” abused women. Now her ex-husband -and former business partner – Jonas Knight reenters her life asking about her most vulnerable client.
Jonas knows his ex-wife helped embezzler Gina Howard elude the authorities and intends to bring the young woman to justice. When Renee is threatened, Jonas grows suspicious of his client’s reason for finding his niece.
In order to uncover the secret a teenager girl disappeared to keep, and a killer wants silenced, Jonas and Renee must struggle through distrust and the pain of their pasts to work together to save the life of teenage girl – and their own.
My Thoughts
Lost Then Found introduces readers to Jonas and Renee in the first novel in the New Beginnings series. Jonas is a skip tracer set on finding Gina, a missing teenager. Renee is committed to keeping Gina—now known as Glory—in hiding, in order to protect her from her abusive uncle. To make matters even more complicated, Jonas and Renee have only recently divorced, following the tragic murder of Renee's sister.
There is a lot going on in this story, and I'll admit, I was a bit confused at first. We're quickly introduced to a lot of characters, several story lines, and back story is hinted at. I think this is one instance where a prologue would have been helpful to me.
However, once I got a little further into the story, I started putting some of the pieces together and got a lot more intrigued by what was going on! Renee was a little hard to warm up to, but as I got to understand what made her tick a bit more, I was more sympathetic to her. Jonas seemed like such a sweet guy from the beginning. More of his story was laid out upfront, so I think I understood him better from the get-go. I felt so sorry for him with so much going against him! My favorite "bonus characters" were Renee's parents. They were a great portrayal of unconditional love and acceptance.
The story moved along pretty quickly. At times, I was confused by the way the multiple stories came together, which sometimes made it hard to stick with it. BUT by the time the book came to an end, everything came together perfectly.
Christina Freeburn is a new-to-me author. Lost Then Found showed a lot of promise, and I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of the New Beginnings series. Readers of romantic suspense should check this book out.
