About the Book
Looking for a woman of good character and pleasant disposition willing to learn the ranching business in Arizona territory. Must be SINGLE and prepared to remain so now and forever more. Will be given ownership of ranch. —Eleanor Walker

Disgraced dime novelist Kate Tenney fled the city that banned her latest book for a fresh start at a cattle ranch in the Arizona Territory. She hopes ranching turns out to be as romantic as she portrayed it in her novels.

But what awaits her is a much harder life. There is no room for mistakes on a working cattle ranch in 1895, and Kate is ill-prepared for her new life. She quickly learns that dawn comes early . . . every day. But she is tenacious.

Having been abandoned by a string of men, Kate has no intention of ever marrying. But she didn’t expect to meet Luke Adams either. Luke awakens feelings inside Kate she doesn’t recognize, and his steady presence is a constant distraction. She has only written about love in the past, never known it herself. But her feelings for Luke stand in the way of all she has to gain if she is chosen as the heir.

Perhaps God brought Kate to the barrenness of the desert to give new life to her jaded heart.

My Thoughts
Running from her past and her failed career, Kate answers an add to become heiress to a successful ranching operation in Arizona. The catch? She must promise never to marry. When she arrives at the Last Chance Ranch, she realizes that everything she thought she knew about ranching is actually much harder. If she's going to earn a place as the heir, she's going to have to learn a lot—and quickly. When she meets Luke, her plans of ranching come into question. Will she choose a ranch or love? And more importantly, will she learn to rely on God?

Dawn Comes Early is a sweet, romantic story. I loved the idea behind the series—a commitment to remain single for life. Not your typical fare in romance novels! Kate and Luke were interesting characters and I liked them both right off the bat. I knew there were underlying issues in both of their pasts and often wondered how they would relate to the rest of the story. Slowly but surely, the secrets began to come out, which really enriched the story.

The hands at the ranch are great secondary characters. They provided a bit more depth and interesting interactions with Kate. There were a couple that I would like to learn more about in future books in the series. Additionally, Kate's ranching adventures are hilarious, and I caught myself laughing out loud a few times.

Overall, Dawn Comes Early is an enjoyable, heart-warming story. If you're looking for a romantic story with a few laughs thrown in, add this one to your TBR list. [3.5 stars]
