Deborah Raney is a new author for me, and I was pleasantly surprised by Forever After. A tragic fire has changed everything for Lucas and Jenna. The fire killed Lucas' father and Jenna's husband and stole Lucas' dream of being a firefighter. A year later both are still grieving their losses and must learn to lean on friends and more importantly God to navigate each challenge along the way.
I really enjoyed this story. It was gripping. The pain, sorrow, grief ... it's so life-like. However, peace, joy, and hope also shine through. This is the second book in the series, but each book stands on its own very well. It made me want to go back to catch up on the previous story!
I will say that the story seemed to skip over some pretty big things. For instance, there is much discussion about Jenna never having loved her deceased husband, but there is never really any explanation of why. It is just sort of an accepted thing. And then at the end, there are a few leaps as well. I felt like a little bit more explanation in a few parts would have helped really complete the story.
Overall, though, I really enjoyed it and would read the other books in this series!
