Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a great day and perhaps taken a few minutes to reflect on last year and look forward to next year! We're not really "New Year's people." By that, I mean we don't ever have big plans for New Year's Eve, we don't really set resolutions (recipe for failure, in my opinion), and we don't eat the traditional New Year's meal. However, we did have a great evening with friends last night, and I've spent a fair amount of time over the past few days in reflection and evaluation of the past few months. I'm looking forward to the next year!

Earlier I mentioned a desire to work on Scripture memory this year and it's time to start! All of you are my accountability, so here goes. Beth's post is here if you want to read what she wrote. I was SO encouraged by the 4,605 comments that have been posted by women who are committing to memorize Scripture this year as well! I would love for any/all of you to join me in this endeavor in 2011. If you do, please reply to these posts throughout the year and let me know. It would greatly encourage me!!!

And my verse for the next two weeks ...

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13, NIV

Feel free to ask me how it's going if you see me around!

  1. I've seen several things about this today. Might have to try it out too. I may have to do one a month, but it is still a grand idea. Wanna keep me accountable too?

  2. We are not a "New Year's" family much either in the way of parties or making a big deal out of celebrating the event. But Craig and I have had what we affectionately call "The Summit" for 20+ years now. This is where we do set some goals for the coming year in regards to 5 areas - financially, spiritually, our marriage, parenting, and friendships. Some years we do "stay on course" towards those goals and other years, well, let's just say that "life gets in the way." It has been fun to look back over the years and see where we have been, though. So, I do encourage you to do this!

As to Scripture memory, I think this is awesome! We have a program we do as a family that I wish we would have been following for 20 years. Mainly because it helps us with retention. Isn't that the biggest issue with Scripture memory? I don't know what this system's plan is for retention but if you need one, let me know and I will send you the link to this plan. It is so simple, you will be surprised. And doesn't take a great deal of organization, either.

I think I have commented enough this morning!

  3. Leigh - YES, let's keep each other accountable!

Debra - I'd love to know what you guys do for retention. The basic plan (for now) is to write all the verses for this year in a spiral notebook and carry them around wherever I go. That way I can flip back through past verses as well.

  4. Brooke...here is the system...go to www.simplycharlottemason.com and on the lefthand side, there is a column of choices. Choose Scripture memory system. It is so simple to do that you can actually memorize more scripture and fill it with ones you already know (or partially know and just need to solidify). When we started, we added ones we knew just to review them. Let me know what you think.
