I'm an E-Reader!!!

I consider myself to be somewhat of a throwback to a time with less technology. Don't get me wrong, I love Facebook, email, and blogs. I enjoy watching TV, DVDs, Netflix. We play Wii games at our house. So, I'm not a total throwback. But I don't think that usually I give my whole life over to technology. For instance, I tolerate cell phones. They sure are nice when we need them, but I don't really like people tracking me down at all hours of the day and night. I still write checks to pay my bills. We don't have credit cards. There are probably other things that would make you say, "Huh ..." but we'll stop there for now.

I love books. (As you are fully aware by reading this blog.) I love how the feel in my hands, how the pages smell (even the library books that have been touched by millions of people!), what it sounds like when the pages turn, the paper they're printed on. Everything. About. Books. So, I've been pretty much anti-e-readers of all kinds. I mean, can you really have the same experience from reading a book on a screen as you do by holding it in your hand and flipping the pages? Well, as I was still trying to decide my latest thoughts on them, my very sweet and generous husband went out and bought me one. As a just-because-gift. Which makes it even better! I wasn't 100% sure I wanted one (still, right?!) but after playing with it for a while, I think I'm going to love it!

In case you're wondering, I chose a Nook. It reads epub files, which are industry standard. Therefore, you can check out books from the library on it. You can also trade books back and forth with other Nook users. Another extra bonus? Anything published prior to 1923 is public domain and therefore is free! Yes, free. I wasn't too impressed until I discovered that some of my favorite childhood books are public domain (Anne of Green Gables and Little Women, anyone?!). And I discovered that ChristianBook.com just started distributing ebooks and have several freebies right now. Not sure if this is all the time or just since it's new, but I had to share. These ebooks can be read on any device except the Kindle (but most of them are free on Amazon as Kindle books, too).

Since the Nook is charging, I'm heading to bed. But be sure to check out the free stuff online! Happy reading!
